murder of crows

In June, my Mom and I participated in an art show/silent auction hosted by The Frugal Crow.  Each year the vintage shop puts out a call to artists and crafters to transform a metal crow figure.  The pieces are displayed for a few weeks and then auctioned off for a local non-profit.  Customers are also encouraged to vote for their favorite crow.  It's a fun project!
My Mom's crow
"One if by Land, Two if by Tree"
Materials: gesso, tissue paper, dictionary pages, gel medium, acrylic paint, plastic doves, thread, and handmade paper
She really out did herself.  Impeccable work as always!
My crow
"Seamstress for the Fowls"
Materials: gesso, sewing patterns, gel medium, cloth measuring tape, thread, embroidery floss, buttons, tiny scissors, and nail polish

I was so pleased with how my crow came together.  The piece was inspired by Elton John's song, Tiny Dancer.

time capsule

Recently, I unearthed an altered book I made about six years ago.  It's a bit like reading an old diary, melodramatic and cringe worthy.  Enjoy!

fave finds: crafty wonderland

Love these Pendleton wool bags by appetite

Last weekend, my Mom and I drove to Portland for Crafty Wonderland.  We perused the booths, loaded up on business cards, and said hello to friends vending at the event.  Here are my favorite booths and handmade goodies...
I loved chatting with Amy of Little Bright Studio about her materials.  I'm dying to have her giraffe necklace!
I'm a big fan of A Tea Leaf!  Alissa has a great eye and always creates such a lovely display.
I've been obsessed with these kittens in sleeping bags by Sew Many Cats for awhile.  They are too cute!
Beautiful business cards by Lettuce Press

Is it obvious that I'm drawn to bold colors and little animals? : )

I'm including a special gift in my next newsletter.  Sign up or you'll miss out!

wrapping paper

I played with white butcher paper and acrylic paint to make wrapping paper for the holidays.  I fastened the gifts with japanese masking tape to add a pop of color.  I tied a few of the boxes with hemp and made tags from scraps of gray board.

I'm thinking about making more wrapping paper and selling it in my shop.

What do you guys think?

new bracelets

I completed a few more bracelets in the past week.  These are two of my favorites.

This Ankara bracelet is my first time incorporating beads.  You can find the tutorial here.
My embroidery floss collection is growing.  Buying and sorting new colors is probably my favorite part of the whole process.

If you'd like to request and purchase a bracelet, let me know.  I'm happy to oblige.

crafting community update

In September, I mentioned my collaboration with Kimmel Kids.  I was invited to donate upcycled paper to Crafting Community a weekend retreat in Palm Springs.  Kids and parents used the paper to create envelopes in the Pen Pal worksop.

I was also asked to contribute my 4" notebooks for the swag bags.
(my lil notebook is highlighted in yellow)

Crafting Community was featured on the ReadyMade blog.  Check it out.

A big thank you to Karen and Sheryl for inviting me to be apart of this awesome event.  It was a pleasure working with you.

opportunity

Last week I received an email from Karen Kimmel's art studio about a unique opportunity.  Karen is a conceptual artist who recently developed Kimmel Kids, a line of nature-inspired educational tools that encourage parents to spend time getting creative with their kids.  Karen's latest venture is a crafty weekend retreat for families called Crafting Community.

So, apparently Karen was in Oregon a few weeks ago.  She happened to pop into a shop and purchase one of my notebooks.  A Kimmel Kids associate contacted me with an offer to assist with the pen pal workshop at the crafting weekend, by contributing found paper for making envelopes and letter-writing.  I was also asked to donate my 4" notebooks to be included in totes given to each family.  Needless to say I jumped at the chance to be a part of this eco crafting event.

I spent the next few days cranking out notebook after notebook.

Yesterday I shipped the paper and notebooks to LA.
I hope the event is a great success!

PS: 4" notebooks are available for purchase in my shop.
